Olympics and Peace

Watching a replay on TV of the 'Parade Of Nations', where nations of the world come together in unity for the  just makes me cry...

I'm not sure if it's the hormones that makes me emotional but at least, to some degree, the world is at peace during this year's #Olympics

Long live the Olympic Games!

Regelation 072712

I am not feeling very well for almost week now. I've been feeling down and anxious.

I'm not sure if this is my OCD, but I think there are things I should be fixing/arranging right now but I can't seem to put my finger to it.

To The Guy I Met Tonight...

To the guy (whose name I really can't remember) who greeted me (and smiled at me) tonight at Glorietta, my apologies for not responding.

You seem to know me and yet I cannot remember when and where or whether or not we've met. Have we met before? If you're on FB, Google+ blogger or Twitter and happen to read this, kindly PM/DM me. I'd hate for you to think I'm a snob.

P.S. Guys, please don't hate me if you see me around, you waved, called me, or tried to get my attention and yet I acted as if I never saw you.

1) I never really saw you. I usually am more focused on going where I need to be. (I am also a fast walker)

2) I never really heard you. My headset is always on and my music player's always on shuffle mode. Or, I really never heard you XD

3) I have problems remembering names and sometimes faces. If I haven't seen you for quite some time or if you changed your physical appearance and demeanor, chances are, I won't be able to recognize you. Believe me. this happened last Sunday. Right, LJ?

If you see me around and I don't seem to recognize you, kindly introduce yourself, stating when and where we've met.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it :D

My 21st Birthday at the Great Northern Sale

Yesterday, I celebrated my 21st birthday. Yeah, I know. I'm old and I told my self what better way to celebrate my coming of age than to shop at the biggest sale of the year? Yep. I celebrated my birthday at the Great Northern Sale at SM City North EDSA.

Thank you so much SM City North EDSA! :D
My avid readers would of the remember to arrive early at the Great Northern Sale because I advised them in my previous post.

I left the house at around 10:30 AM because I wast still online thanking my friends and family for greeting me on my birthday. I took the MRT (train) because it's much faster than the bus but as usual, the MRT's crowded.

I immediately went to the Admin Office of SM North EDSA to claim the GC they have for me :D

After claiming my GC, I then headed to the Department Store to do my shopping.

This is what it looked like inside SM North EDSA's Department Store. Thousands of people scrambling to take home their great finds.

Yes, there were major discounts everywhere you look. Clothes, bags, shoes, accessories, things you use at home. Marked down items were everywhere!

I needed dress shirts (long-sleeved, short-sleeved and three-fourths) to add to my wardrobe and for work (I don't mean office work) and events so I made my way to the Men's Department. Piles and piles of shirts were on the display table. Hundreds were also hung on racks. That was just euphoric :D

I didn't bring a lot of cash. I'm officially unemployed starting yesterday, so you know why. There were a lot of nice shirts but I need to pick the perfect articles of clothing. Pair that with my OCD and you've got yourself a persnickety 21-year old.

Here's what I got from SM North EDSA's Great Northern Sale:

This gray-accented navy blue three-fourths from Dansen is just perfect for casual/formal wear. I can wear this with jeans on a normal day or pair it with black pants for a church service on Sundays. I got this, paying half of its original price.

50% off! Where can you find that type of discount for a branded dress shirt? Only at the Great Northern Sale!

I studied in a school which required its students to to come to class in corporate attire. This is maybe where my penchant for formal/business outfits came from.

Long-sleeved shirts of Wall Street's New York Collection usually sells for more than 1000 pesos (about 25 US dollars). This one sells for exactly that.

However, because of the Great Northern Sale, I got this white-striped purple long-sleeved shirt for almost half of its regular selling price.

Seriously! Wall Street's New York Collection for almost half the price! Nothing beats the discounts at the Great Northern Sale!

After shopping, I bought 12 pieces of brownies from Brownies Unlimited for only 99 PhP which normally sells for 125 PhP. This too, is in connection with the Great Northern Sale.

There was a fashion show later that night at The Block, SM North EDSA, but because I have a meeting with JIVE Youth Leaders that same night, I wasn't able to watch.

Here's a pic of the fashion show's set-up:

Thank you so much SM City North EDSA for the GC and for being a part of my 21st birthday celebration. This truly is a wonderful gift to me.

Looking forward to the next Great Northern Sale!

Friday The 13th

I am so sure you've all seen the 1980 movie "Friday The 13th" (And others with the similar title). You know just how horrifying that movie is. What if it happens in real life? I hope not...

Friday the 13th is a date considered unlucky, or "malas" in Filipino, by a lot of people. people consider the number 13 as unlucky that is why it is almost never present, non-existent even, in hotels, office buildings and other establishments.

But you know what? They're just fooling themselves. The 13th floor they mark as 14th? It's still the 13th floor! The joke's on them XD

Pair with Friday, which is the most unlucky day of the week according to superstitions, and you've got yourself a day full of disaster. well, that's according to them.

The truth is, it's just a day that place, when the first day of every month falls on a Sunday.

Yep. You read that right. Every month that starts on a Sunday is bound to have  Friday the 13th (e.g., January 1 = Sunday, January 13 = Friday).

This year alone has 3 occurrences of Friday the 13th. January 13, April 13 and July 13.

Had it not been a leap year, the only months that will have Friday the 13th on them are the months of January and October.

Now, what is with this weird fascination with the"unluckiness" of Friday the 13th?

The truth? It's an absolute superstition!

In Italy, 13 is a very lucky number. What's unlucky for them is Friday the 17th!

In Spanish-speaking countries, Tuesday the 13th is considered unlucky.

The earliest known documented reference of Friday the 13th in English occurs in Henry Sutherland Edwards' 1869 biography of Gioachino Rossini, who died on a Friday 13th.

Another fact, driving on Friday the 13th is safer, well, at least in the Netherlands (according to a study), simply because people don't get out as much in fear of getting themselves into an accident.

Friday the 13ths are inevitable. The 13th of the month is more likely to fall on a Friday than any other day of the week as shown by this diagram:

The distribution of the 13th day over the 4,800 months is as follows:
Day of the week Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
Number of occurrences   687   685    685      687     684  688    684

Bottom line:

Friday the 13th is here to stay, no matter what you say.

For the superstitious: I know. It's tough. You're screwed. Deal with it! XD

I mean, today's my birthday and do you hear me complaining? :D

I thank God for 21 years of His faithfulness to me. For all the things He’s done and for all the things to come, I’ll never stop praising Him.

I thank my Mom who loved me so much to give up everything. Thank you for teaching me to how be strong and to maintain grace under pressure. Thank you for raising me up to be a God-fearing, responsible, loving, fine young lad I am right now. Thank you Ma, for keeping me in line when the boundaries start to turn gray. You had to teach me one great lesson, even when it meant leaving me…

I thank my Dad for simply being there I need you. Thank you for teaching me to be patient with people. Thank you for making my childhood a life to remember. Thank you for teaching me how to think on my feet. Thank you for being my father. No matter what people say about you, I still love you.

Mom, Dad, there had been a lot of wrong things I did in the past and I would like to say “I am deeply sorry.” I know that would not make up for the mistakes I did, but what’s important is that I learned from them.

To my sister, who taught me responsibility using the most inconceivable of situations, thank you. Thank you for teaching me how to be independent regardless of the circumstances. I know we bickered a lot, and wasn’t that fun? XD I remember how we’d run around the house playing an extreme sport called “Hit Me With The Broom” XD Despite all that, please know that I still love you (as much as it pains me XD Just kidding!). You’re my big sister, and yes, you’re older than I am XD

To all my teachers, professors and mentors, I say thank you so much for molding me and for teaching me invaluable lessons (in and outside the classroom, academic and otherwise) throughout the years. You were a large part of making me who I am right now. I owe you a lot.

To my other relatives, friends, colleagues, mentees, and other people whom I’ve met, thank you for being with me in triumph and defeat, in rejoicing and mourning; for working with me; putting up with me; for not conspiring, er, plotting to murder me XD; but most of all, for simply being a part of my life.

To my enemies, detractors, disparagers and haters, you can all go to you know where XD er, thank you for making my life challenging. If you want your kitchen knives back which you left in my back, I’ll just mail to you :D Now, my life wouldn’t be fun without you guys, would it? :D

I may not be around for long… This is why I want to appreciate everyone who had been a part of my 21 years that I lived in this world (even if you just passed by). Again, thank you so much!

Lord, I thank you for creating me and for allowing me to live here on earth and placing these wonderful people around me. You are the First and Last and you should be thanked first and last. May my life glorify You and You alone. All that matters is the glory of Your name. I give you back all the glory, honor and praise.

Let’s celebrate! :D
