Camp Kabataan's Preparations for LEVEL UP SYC 2010 (Working on A Wednesday)

I'm still dreaming at around 10:30 yesterday morning when I overheard two young people talking to my father and asking for me. Turns out that these two are my pals from JIVE Youth. A hypnopedic like me gets easily distracted. I woke up and told my father that I'll be meeting them in a while.

My two pals asked me for directions on how to go to SBC-Masinag. They have a rehearsal for the LEVEL UP Summer Youth Camp 2010. I ended up not taking a bath, not eating breakfast and accompanying them to SBC-Masinag.

I wasn't supposed to be here in Masinag, Antipolo City because I have to follow-up JIVE Youth's participants for the Summer Youth Camp in Makati. Camp Kabataan's Drama Team wasn't the only one here. The Registration, Production and other organizers are also here.

I must say, Camp Kabataan's volunteers are doing are really great job in preparing for our organizations' yearly highlight. The Drama Team is already in the perfecting stages of their rehearsals. I wasn't allowed to peek but I did anyway.

Campers, Counsleors, Pastors and Volunteers, Level Up Summer Youth Camp 2010 will make you nostalgic of the '90s. that's all I can say.

The Production Team is also finishing the decorations and other stuff for the stage, and the whole venue. They are also doing a really great job. If I may say so, LEVEL UP SYC 2010 is the most beautiful, action-packed and wonderful Youth Camp of Camp Kabataan.

SBC-Masinag's office became the extension of my home office for yesterday. Thank you Pastor Alvin. Thank you also to Pastor Jeff for letting me use his laptop to finish this post.

Join Camp Kabataan's LEVEL UP Summer Youth Camp 2010 and have good, exciting, fun!

See you there and to Camp Kabataan's volunteers, Kudos to you all!

Tremors on A Thursday

This afternoon, at around 1:30 PM, Philippine Time, two consecutive earthquakes shook Makati City and other parts of the National Capital Region. As of this posting, the epicenter of the quake is still unknown. Ate Sarj told me that the stronger quake is 5.9 magnitude in the Richter scale.

Around 12:30 PM, I just left a local high school to visit and congratulate one of my very good friends on his graduation this coming Tuesday. I was actually lost and was helplessly asking for directions on how to get to my school. You see, my first class is at 12:45 and it's a major one and I was desperate to get to school. I tried hailing cabs but after a dozen passed by and they all have passengers, I decided to take the jeepneys.

At around 1:20 PM, I finally arrived at Magallanes and rode another jeep to our school. By 1:25 PM, I'm already inside the college premises. I finished encoding my Law Communication 1 homework early this morning, around 2 Am for that matter, but am unable to have it printed. I went to the school's IT Resources Group to have it printed after paying at the Accounting Department. After I opened the file (my homework), I noticed that the text on the computer screen were moving. Atty. Cuevas required us to be creative when it comes to homework, but I clearly remember that I did not put animations on my word processed HW. It will also be useless if printed.

That's when I realized that the ground is shaking. It felt normal at first but the tremors grew stronger. One of the ITRG staff also noticed that an earthquake is ongoing and alerted everyone. The Director of ITRG panicked and told his staff to save all data, and get out of the building.

I went to class after that and was marked absent. It's already 1:37 and LAWCOM1 is from 12:45-2:15 only. My blockmates would've sang 'Happy Birthday To You' to one of our blockmates but Atty. Cuevas told us to get out of the building at that moment.

I still managed to drop a letter to one of my professor's pigeon-hole box. My excuse letter for the Youth Camp. Our Program Director told me to get down now and I did.

There were two quakes. the second was the aftershock. It's considerably weaker in intensity than the previous one. All students, faculty and staff gathered at teh parking lot to wait. It took almost ten minutes for all students, faculty and staff to vacate the building. It's no longer a drill, it's for real! Thanks to Ate Janelle for the idea. We've been conducting earthquake drills in the past months but I don't know why it took ten minutes for all the people to vacate the college.

Also, the fire alarms were not pulled on all floors. i think the only alarm i heard was from the second floor. After that, the building administration department and staff checked the building for damages and the building was later declared safe. I was hoping for the suspension of classes but I was disappointed. Classes resumed minutes later. We had World Literature then and discussed Luisa Valenzuela's Vision from the Corner of One Eye and Edgar Allan Poe's Tell Tale heart.

Praise God that no one was hurt and we're still alive. Glory to God and Hallelujah!

Home Alone

I will be home alone for a whole week and I will have yet another taste of being independent. I woke up with a 500 PhP bill on my sidetable and a text message saying that my father's in the province.

My father's having a vacation at my aunt's house and will be back next week. It's not because we're driving each other crazy (at times yes XD) but it's good for him to have a vacation from time to time. He's already a senior citizen and he needs rest. My fridge is fully stocked with foods from our event yesterday, "It's Showtime" so I don't have to worry about getting hungry. the problem is, we don't have any more gas (LPG. LPG in the Philippines costs about 12-15 USD and if I buy gas, I will have no more money for the rest of the week.

I know it's hard to maintain a big home. I'm living in our house for the past 18 years. So, for the next days, I will be cleaning the house, the dishes, feed the cat, the fishes and the doves (Yes, we have doves), and do some maintenance work.

So help me God.

I Will Get There

Just this afternoon, while in my class, our college's guidance counselor came and asked me to see him at the Guidance Office. I was wondering what it was. The latest violation I had was September of 2008 when I went to school without my ID card.

I met with him later and asked about the 4 absences I had in one of my subjects. 5 is the maximum number of absences one is allowed for this term. I said, in my defense, and in a good manner that I only have 3. My professor in that boring, blasted subject, who I may add teaches like high school, miscounted my absences as 4. I told that professor that it was only 3 and I showed proof---the activity that professor gave us that day.

Now this Guidance Counselor of ours asked me what do I want in life. I replied, "We all crave for success." This GC of ours has been acting as if he is better than me since the first term.. I have respect for authority but there are just certain times when you want to contradict them---that's called rebellion. They have to do their job, I understand that, but I think his approach in dealing with me is a little bit out-of-line.

For the record, I am aware, I understand and I know the repercussions of having excessive absences. I need not be reminded. It is my responsibility to go to class. I am not one of those students who go to school to just to fail their subjects, chat with friends and don't care about learning. I study smart. And yes, I will graduate college and be a successful person in my field.

It will take time, but I will get there.

Earthquake in Chile

The world hasn't recovered yet from the 'shock' given by the earthquake in Haiti last january and just last Saturday, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile literally shook numerous lives. The earthquake in Chile which some say is the strongest in 5 years and is one of the strongest recorded quakes in history tore, tumbled and destroyed various houses, buildings and other infrastructures. The quake also sent a tsunami racing almost halfway around the world. The quake also shortened the days on earth by 1.26 milliseconds. The Chilean earthquake was so destructive that President Michelle Bachelet declared not a State of Emergency, unlike President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, but a "State of Catastrophe".

Too bad, Chile was visited by the racers of The Amazing Race 16. Such a beautiful country. I commend Phil Keoghan and CBS for acknowledging the disaster that took place there just as they did when a tsunami devastated Sri Lanka and other countries a few seasons ago. Kudos to Keoghan and company!

I was talking to my Sunday School Superintendent last Sunday, February 28 about the quake which my father told me about. He heard it from the radio. I was telling Ma'am Glo that Tsunami Alert Level 2 was lifted in Hawaii, other Pacific islands and the Philippines. We prayed that the quake will not send a tsunami and guess what? It didn't. In the Philippines and other Pacific islands, for that matter.

As I was reading some articles on the Web about the quake, I've come across this story about the Desarmes family living in Haiti when the quake last January transpired, moved to Chile just to be shaken once again by the 8.8 magnitude quake. Here's the link to the story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/lt_chile_earthquake_twice_cursed

I will leave you with fact that natural calamities are uncertain when they will come but we can do something. We can prepare for it.

Christians, let us pray that no more catastrophes will happen. Also, let us donate to the Red Cross.

Have a great and safe day everyone.

Travel Plans

Just this morning, my Auntie Nancy and Mommy Dely arrived. More of a stop-over because they will be heading out to Antipolo City to attend to some business. It has been a while since they've visited us. Mommy will be going back to Vancouver on the 15th. Before that, we will be visiting some of relatives in Sto. Rosario, Macabebe, Pampanga. Maybe next week. I know we have relatives in Pampanga. My father's from Macabebe. We may very well visit Dang Sion in La Loma if I get their address.

BTW, SBC-Makati is planning for a Missions Trip for Cambodia in OCtober/November 2011 and China in 2012. I hope that will materialize.

No classes tomorrow but I've got s lot to do. Have a great day everyone!
